Today, the software company CodeWeavers has released a new version of the Windows emulation software CrossOver for Linux and Mac OS X. The new version is based on Wine 1.5.15 and now has a better integration with the desktop systems Unity and Gnome 3 and has a better support for transparent windows with an activated compositing manager. Also the list of officially supported applications has been extended with new applications like:
- World of Tanks
- Quicken 2013
- .Net 4.0
- Guild Wars 2
While the work on Steam and a lot of new games for Linux progressing continuously, the most of Windows games and applications will not be ported to Linux in the near future. Therefore, many Linux users probably can not completelely avoid using of an emulation software. CrossOver allows running a lot of Windows applications on Linux very easy. While CrossOver is a commercial product it can be tested for 14 days before purchasing it.
